05 March 2018

New Family Social bring LGBT Fostering and Adoption Week 2018, with the theme of '10 Good Reasons Why,' a campaign that will be running across the course of the week.

Team Fostering are a proud agency member of New Family Social, the leading organisation for promoting LGBT fostering and adoption across UK. Being an agency member means that our foster carers are entitled to free individual memberships, which gives them access to a wide range of resources and information.

From improved post-adoption support, to keeping siblings together, the reasons given by the campaign aim to help LGBT people to take their first steps into adoption and fostering.

Research consistently shows that LGBT people expect to face discrimination because of their sexual orientation or gender identity when applying to adopt or foster, so the campaign unites agencies keen to work with LGBT applicants and New Family Social, the UK’s charity for LGBT adopters and foster carers.

Tor Docherty, New Family Social chief executive, said: ‘This year we’re sharing ten good reasons why LGBT people should consider adopting and fostering – but there are many, many more. We’re delighted that the proportion of same-sex couples adopting in Wales rose to an all-time high last year – but there is still much work to be done to support and encourage LGBT people to adopt and foster, wherever they are in the UK.’

The campaign also takes place in the tenth year of New Family Social acting as a national organisation for LGBT adopters and foster carers.
