Our North East offices welcomed 1st year students last week, who completed a week-long placement with Team Fostering as part of their university studies.
Tyler and Nadine visited us as part of their Social Work studies, gathering an understanding of how a non-profit, independent fostering agency operates. They spent a lot of time shadowing some of our Supervising Social Workers, accompanying them on visits and staff training. Our foster carers gave their views about the role of a social worker to the students, which they both found extremely valuable. They also had meetings with our administration, recruitment and marketing staff to develop a further sense of ‘behind the scenes’ roles that contribute to the running of the agency.
We really enjoyed working with the students and look forward to welcoming those on placement in the future. Here’s some of the feedback we received this year:
‘Something I found really good with this placement was having the opportunity to visit carers’ houses and have the chance to talk to them about the service. Everyone was very nice, and made the effort to talk to us. We were made to feel like part of the team and that we could ask anyone anything.’
‘Everything I learnt can really help me in my studies and help me to progress well. It’s been an amazing week with some lovely people.’
‘Everything I was shown I am able to apply to my work in university and I appreciate all of the time that the workers spent with us.’
