Celebrating children and young people in the North East with Team Fostering

On 18^th February 2020, children and young people, carers, and staff from Team Fostering in the North East came together for our Celebration of Achievement event. This year, the celebration moved to a fantastic new venue at the Centre for Life in Newcastle.

Arranged by our Education and Support Team, the event provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our children and young people, who received medals and certificates to mark their progress and achievements.

As Jane Butler, CEO of Team Fostering noted; "I loved the fact that one young man, to whom I handed a medal, towered above me and another was a baby in arms! Such different stages of their lives but all being supported to reach their potential."

"Occasions like this highlight all those successes, but we know that these are happening gradually, over time, day in and day out. Our Education and Support colleagues put on this really lovely event and chose such a great venue, with free access to the exhibition on offer after our celebration had finished. All round a lovely time seemed to be had by all."

Education and Support Services manager, Lisa Leggatt added. "Events like this take quite a bit of organising but it is worth it to see the joy on the children’s faces and the excitement when they show their certificates to their carers."

Tilly, aged 15 who was part of the celebration, said, "I thought it was very helpful for me because positives were recognised which helped to give my confidence a boost."

Our Yorkshire and East Midlands Celebration will take place in June 2020, celebrating even more of our foster families across the agency.
