Foster Carers are expected to participate in the monthly support group meetings, which are held at the area offices and attended not only by other foster carers, but by the staff and representatives from the Management Team. The support groups offer informal support from other Carers who are doing the job and can be an invaluable source of information, and inspiration eg of how to deal with situations in a different way using their own experiences and imagination!

Our support groups are also used as a venue to inform foster carers of business development initiatives, changes in the legislation which will affect them, changes with Policies and Procedures which could impact upon their practices and consultation about events and activities etc.

We also encourage our foster carers participation and representation in our business, e.g. foster carers are involved in staff interviews, consulted in decision making, participate in the Initial Preparation training of new carers and are involved in the initial contacts with new carers.

We hope that all our Foster Carers feel a valued part of Team Fostering and that they are able to contribute to our progress and achievements.

The Sheffield office have recently established a Carer Reps meeting where the a small number of Foster Carer who represent the whole group of Carers meets with the Managers of the service to discuss and consult together about a range of issues which could include service developments, financial issues, future activities and holidays etc and any other issues that the Foster Carers want to raise.
