Team Fostering offers a range of different placements for those children and young people who are unable to live with their own family. Most of our existing Foster Carers are approved to take more than one type of placement, and placements can last from a couple of days to months or years.

Here is some information about the different types of placements to help you decide about fostering:

  • EmergencyMany of our placements start off as emergency placements, where a Local Authority is looking for a placement for a child immediately or on that day. We may not get a lot of information about the child so we are very careful about matching a child with potential Foster Carers in these circumstances.
  • Short Term PlacementsAt Team Fostering, these types of placements can last for a few days or up to two years. Such cirumstances would be when a child might be returning to his/her own family or moving onto a long term placement or the plan is for the child to be adopted. We work with the Local Authorities care plan for the child, and sometimes due to changes in circumstances, this can take longer than expected.
  • Long Term PlacementsSometimes children cannot return to their own family, and are too old to be adopted. They need a foster family who will care for them permanently until they move onto independence.
  • Parent & Child PlacementsThese are placements where both the parent and child live with the Foster Carers, until the Local Authority feel that they are able to manage on their own, or with support. The Foster Carers receive specific training for this type of placement as they are expected to be part of the assessment process which is sometimes directed by the courts to develop their parenting status.
  • Placements for Sanctuary Seeking Children & Young PeopleWe are sometimes asked to provide placements for children and young people who have been separated from their family and have travelled to this country seeking asylum. We provide our Foster Carers with specific help and training to care for these young people to reflect their cultural and religious needs. We also have existing Foster Carers who have experience of this type of placement and are willing to share their knowledge and skills.
  • Respite PlacementsSome of our existing Foster Carers offer short break placements for children and young people to enable their main Foster Carers and family to have a break. We try to match the children with the same short break Foster Carers, so that they get to know the family, and enjoy their time away.
  • Placement for Children/Young People with DisabilitiesWe have some children and young people placed with Team Fostering who have physical and or learning disabilities, and we are always looking for other fostering families who can offer placements to these children. Sometimes these children are placed with our own existing Foster Carers or are children who need regular breaks from their family. We also provide specialist training for this type of placement.
  • Remand PlacementsSometimes the Courts remand young people into the care of the Local Authority, and into Foster Care placements. These placements are usually for a short time only and the Foster Carer is required to work closely with the Youth Offending teams.
  • Evolution PlacementsThese are specialist placements for children and young people who exhibit sexualised behaviour that poses a risk to themselves, or to others. We offer a holistic package of care including an assessment of their needs, and therapy in placements that supports, nurtures and protects them. Foster Carers are provided with specialist training for these placements.
