Purpose of the Fostering Panel

Team Fostering have established fostering panels to carry out the following functions:

  • To consider fostering assessments and make recommendations to the agency about applicants suitability as foster carers
  • When the panel recommend approval, to also recommend the terms of approval
  • To consider reviews of foster carers' appointment/ approval, and make recommendations to the agency regarding suitability as foster carers
  • To advise where appropriate on the annual review process and to monitor the effectiveness of annual review of carers
  • To oversee the conduct of assessments, give advice and make recommendations on any matters or cases the fostering service may refer to the panel
  • To offer advice, when requested, to assessing social workers on assessments in process
  • To make recommendations to the agency about the termination of foster carers' appointment/ approval
  • To consider any representations made to the agency following a Qualifying Determination made by the Agency Decision Maker to change or terminate a foster carer's approval
