Almost all of the children who come to Team Fostering will have their own bedroom, space to put belongings and, a place that is “yours”. A few children will share a bedroom, but that would only ever be with your brother or sister, and it would be if you and your social worker felt that was OK.

What do you like to Eat and Do?

Your foster carer will ask you these questions, and make every effort to provide you with meals that you enjoy (but they will encourage healthy eating too!), and they will make sure that you carry on doing your hobbies, or interests and enjoy your leisure time.

You will also be given pocket money, but how much will depend on your age and what you need.

Contact with Family and Friends

This is very important and our Carers will want to help you to keep in touch with your family and friends, but we will need some help from your social worker about how often, where and when.

School

Most of the children and young people who come to Team Fostering stay at the same school they have been attending. Your foster carer will keep in touch with school, and will help you to do your best. We know lots of young people can find some parts of school life difficult, and we want to help you enjoy being at school, and help with any problems you might have.

Activities

We do lots of activities at Team Fostering, and every school holiday there are lots of things to do with other foster families and children. We have been to Lightwater Valley, London Zoo, the local leisure centres, the Christmas pantomime and many more. In May we have a caravan holiday, where you can have lots of fun, and relax along with other young people and their carers. We ask you what you would like to do and where you would like to go on future activities, SO PLEASE TELL US.

Tell us what you think

It is very important for us to listen to what young people think about living in their foster family, and about how we can do the best for you. We will visit you to talk about how you feel you are being looked after, and you can contact us at any time if you are worried about anything. Our contact details are in the ‘Welcome pack’.

Are you leaving?

We try to make sure that this happens in a positive way for you. We have just started to run a course for young people who will be moving onto independence in the next year or two, preparing for adult life.

If you are moving onto another carer, or back home, or another situation we hope you have good memories of Team Fostering and that we have some photographs of your time with us that we can give you.

Keep in touch

All of you matter to us and we love to hear of how things are going for you after you have left.
